I understand the difference. Maybe I wasn't clear, but I was referring to "naked" index puts in 1987 when there were no margin requirements. A fair number of people lost their shirts in this manner during the crash.

Equity puts are very conservative. I may have been under the mistaken impression Mr. Martini was selling "naked" puts on Dell. If he owns the stock, I'm all for his approach.

BTW, response to your other post. Dell was $20 a year ago. What's so difficult about imagining that it might return there in any kind of a bear market. You have 30 years experience, same as me. I've seen many good companies lose 50-90% of their value in bear markets, only to come back later stronger than ever. Yes, I'll admit it. I'm very bearish on this market.
