I just read a little tidbit about the Merced in the 3/1 Information Week. "Intel officials at the conference [Intel Developers Forum in Palm Springs, Ca] also showed a prototype of the upcoming Merced processor for 64-bit servers and workstations, due in mid-2000. Intel hasn't disclosed Merced's speed, but analysts estimate it will be as high as 800 MHz. Intel officials say a second-generation 64-bit chip called McKinley, due in late 2001, will double Merced's performance." --Tom Davey So, Intel delayed the project and now they have the replacement lined up. Just over one year of "marketability" for the Merced before it's outdate. I guess that's longer than most computer products... I wonder who, if anyone, is working with Intel on the McKinley. Jody
