The business section of the Washington Post 3/1/99 has an article on the effects of commodity deflation. Hog farmers are going out of business, this winter pork was selling at eight cents a pound. The distributors did not drop their prices, and the grocers actually raised the price of pork. Even though grain prices are going down, Kelloggs raised the price of its cereals, citing advertising and printing costs.
