I think you missed Francis' point -- the reason that Micron knocks
a measly $25 off the price is to discourage people from making
special orders.
Just to toss a couple of numbers around, say that Micron decides
that the cost of handling a special order such as a Zipless machine
that normally has a Zip in it is $50 (not a totally unreasonable
assumption, IMHO). This implies that the drive costs Micron $75. So by
not including the drive, Micron saves that $75, passes $25 on to
the finnicky ;-) customer, and keeps $50 for their troubles.

Seems reasonable to me, anyways.
