Just to toss a couple of numbers around, say that Micron decides
that the cost of handling a special order such as a Zipless machine
that normally has a Zip in it is $50 (not a totally unreasonable
assumption, IMHO). This implies that the drive costs Micron $75. So by
not including the drive, Micron saves that $75, passes $25 on to
the finnicky ;-) customer, and keeps $50 for their troubles.<

You all could be right. But how do we know that I am wrong--i.e. that IOM is just selling them damn cheap to try to achieve the standard? Perhaps there are shades of truth to both sides. Please convince me.
