Gaming Stocks are Short-Term Winners
Tue Mar 2 1999

uS gaming stocks show more promise for investors today than at any point in the last two years, according to Jason Ader, senior managing director at Bear Stearns. More tourism, special events and attractions, and Asian gaming in Las Vegas offer short-term advantages to gaming stocks. However, Ader cautioned long-term investors. Although the new National Airlines carrier will help bring more gamblers to Vegas, Ader warned that it won't bring them in the numbers required to fill the gaming mecca's new hotel rooms. Ader also feels that an increasingly competitive gaming environment will force small-cap gaming firms to team for advantage or seek buyers among the big public firms. The major American companies best positioned to prosper in the next millennium include Circus Circus, Park Place Entertainment, MGM Grand, Mirage Resorts Incorporated, and Harrah's Entertainment Corp, the most diversified US gaming operator.
