Dell machines will have increased %age of IBM components.

This could easily be step 1 allowing IBM to decide to get out of the PC retail business.

The FTC would have nothing whatsoever to say in the matter. Dell's market share will continue to increase. The others will continue to decrease. ... and IBM may decide to get out of the consumer retail business altogether. Especially if they can make more money supplying components to Dell than they ever will trying to catch up with Dell's constantly improving efficiencies.

IBM is just to big and clumsy to ever catch up with a corporation that's as nimble as Dell has proven itself to be.

Will Dell's advantage change? Almost certainly.

Will it change within the next 5 years? Almost certainly not.

FWIW,
Ian.
