NEW YORK, March 4 (Reuters) - International Business
Machines Corp. and Dell Computer Corp. are
expected to announce a broad agreement that could generate
significant revenue for IBM, the Wall Street Journal reported,
citing people familiar with the matter.
The computer giants are expected to announce the agreement
at a news conference Thursday in New York City, people familiar
with the matter told the newspaper.
One person familiar with the matter told the newspaper the
deal would involve billions of dollars in sales for IBM in the
short term.
Dell, the nation's second largest personal computer maker,
could benefit from hiring IBM to support its customers with
computer services, the paper said, citing industry officials.
IBM's service business, which provides computer consulting
and maintenance, has annual revenues of about $30 billion.
The company has been contemplating a possible parternship in
the personal computer arena, people familar with the
inner-workings of IBM told the newspaper.
