SARASOTA, Fla.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--March 4, 1999--Surgical Safety Products, Inc. (OTC BB:SURG) announced today the successful recent deployment of OASiS Touch-Access Information Service (Version 2 of this Internet based business-to-business application) in three hospitals: Columbia Presbyterian in New York, Partners AtlantiCare in Massachusetts, and St. Francis Medical Center in New Jersey.
According to Bernice Gordon, Director, Quality Assurance/Staff Development at the prestigious Columbia Presbyterian Hospital, OASiS has far exceeded her expectations. ''OASiS was a hit on all counts! Our staff is delighted. I thought this technology was going to be a great tool for the Operating Room, but after seeing what OASiS can do, we simply must have it in other key departments also.'' She went on to comment that the OASiS system has the ability to impact key initiatives hospital-wide, ''OASiS supports all of the quality indicators that we have chosen to address.''
Built on a platform utilizing technologies from Microsoft, Intel and Apple, among others, OASiS Touch-Access Information is truly unique in its approach to filling a critical need in the medical industry. Company Founder and Chairman G. Michael Swor M.D. points out that no other network brings the same scope of services, sharing information between industry companies and the hospitals, into the actual hospital environment. ''One thing medical device companies and hospital administrators agree upon is the value of better training for nurses and doctors for improved patient care and safety.'' He continued ''This represents a push toward pure patient care issues instead of cost cutting and cost shifting.''
The need for this service is real and is being embraced by medical device companies desiring to educate healthcare workers on the safe use of their devices. Swor also mentioned that the Company is working with over a dozen other companies to provide educational material on the OASiS Touch-Access System. ''We will feature at least 15 of these companies at the Association of Operating Room Nurses Annual Congress (AORN) in San Francisco this month, where over 7000 nurses will have the opportunity to touch OASiS.''
