Actually, we agree. There IS a good possibliity, even a likelihood, that Java will be a survivor.

My point with Rod was that it is far from a foregone conclusion. These things are transient in nature.

As the best example, Rod is citing Java as the absolute definitive replacement for C++, a language that has
been in general commercial use only a few years. It is simply too early to tell whether Java will replace on widespread basis C++ or other languages. And it is a niave individual who assumes at this point that Java WILL.

Otherwise, I'm in agreement with you about this.
