Re: The Brand Name: Value of Intangibles
How much is "compusa.com" worth. Perhaps not as much as you think. More like Barnes & Noble name than Coca Cola. In fact, I can't think of much that distinguishs compusa from computer warehouse, computer discount center, circuit city, etc. People will buy computers at stores and online, and a lot of people will still continue to do the former. Their brand, if anything, means "big place with lots of computer stuff". I think the brand could actually be dimished with an poorly executed push into cyberspace. All that said, there is economic value to the brand, and I haven't done the calcs yet to quantify, but I would make an educated guess that its north of $1-2/share. My big question remains - how many of their stores do they lease, how many do they own. Guess I could get a 10-Q from my friend EDGAR but I'm a busy fellow and I don't even have a position...yet. |
