Did I miss this Press Release when it came out yesterday?
Planet America Inc. - PNTC - announces Launch of its $10 billion Affiliate Program for National Sponsors & Internet Companies
biz.yahoo.com
There is a blurb in there about being able to click a link to eBay, Bid.Com, and uBid "and see only those items for sale within a certain distance from your home. If you can't find what you're looking for locally, then naturally you can expand your search to regional, state, or national levels."
Is it just me who's wondering what distance has anything to do with their examples? I mean, isn't the whole idea of on-line auctions that it is national/international? I realize that with eBay the item purchased on-line comes directly from the individual auctioning it, but as you are receiving it through the mail - does it really matter which city it came from? Obviously Canada/Canada sell/buy makes sense to avoid duties, and those awful exchange rates, but would it make any difference to you?
Even stranger, Planet releases the day before:
Planet America Inc. -PNTC- to Launch 1,200 Local Area Web Portals that will Capture the US $1.7 Trillion Retail Market
biz.yahoo.com
which almost makes Amazon, eBay, et al revenue look like a lemonade stand:
"Pla.net's aggressive rollout targets the whole of America's $1.7 trillion retail market including the $7.8 billion online market (Forrester Research, 1998). This fact alone increases Planet's revenue potential far above that of other purely Internet-based companies like Amazon.com (AMZN), eBay (EBAY), BID.COM (BII.TO), or Shopping.com (IBUY) who compete in a virtual market worth less than one half of one percent of the total US retail marketplace."
Duh! If PNTC is only offering a link, where the heck are they getting this revenue? A percentage of the sales? Some sort of fee?
I can't tell if Planet America (based in Newmarket, Ont - I called to check) actually has those big names - eBay, Bid.Com, and uBid - in its Affiliate Program. Unfortunately when I called, their VP Marketing had already left for the day. Maybe I will try again tomorrow to understand how Planet America (sounds like some sort of caped-hero) plans to earn all this revenue, and if they have a deal with Bid.Com. If they do, this could be bigger than it first appears...ie. increased traffic - FC
At the very least, can I take comfort in the fact that an OTC-BB stock gives some exposure to our little Canadian goldmine? Further to those two PRs, PNTC has seen some pretty FANTASTIC few days (close Mar 1 $1.625 to a high of $10.25 today - that's over a 600% increase in 2½ days):

Hmm, wish I could have been in on that one. Btw Kris, looks like this little BB stock didn't follow your "buy on rumor, sell on news" formula, but actually went the way of most sane stocks.
Finally, there was another NR out today, but no mention of BII.

P.S. Guess I saved it all up for the end of the day. Sorry! |
