its too late for 3com to develop their *own* ip. this is the wrong move as shown by other companies like sgi selling off their Mips division and using intel processors. others like sun still use their own chip designs because they are their own biggest customer. SPARC never took off and became an industry standard because there was always intel making the chips cheaper, better, and faster. likewise, 3com can not hope to compete like BRCM. 3com will only end up designing and selling chips to themselves. what a waste of R&D!! Perhaps 3com should come up with somethign really novel instead of just trying to make cheaper NICS and widgets.
