dd,

I think it has a chance to replace Windows for alot of people.
I guess I have not been personally looking at it in terms of
something to replace Windows as far as my own home machines are
concerned. I have both Win 95 and Linux on every computer I own.
I have one hard disk for Win 95 and one for Linux. I don't use
the Linux loader. If one of my family members turn on a PC it boots
up to Win 95 and you would never know Linux was on it. Put in a
Linux boot floppy and boot the machine like this and then Linux
will boot up from the second hard drive. With two hard drives I
can easily upgrade one OS independent of another without any risks
whatsoever in losing data from the other OS.

I would like nothing better to be able to get every application
I use for Linux. But that may never be the case. Linux is without
the doubt the superior OS in technical terms. But, I really like
being able to drop by CompUSA or other stores and pick up all sorts
of nice games and applications for Win 95. So for me using Linux
and Win 95 together just makes my computer all that more flexible
a tool and entertainment device.

I know you asked your question more in terms of the business world
but I just wanted to point out it need not be one or the other.
Both can be used on the same machine, although not at the same time,
and this is the mode of operation that many users may choose to use
for quite some time. We might see the business world start to
operate like this also. I personally don't see it replacing Windows
for a long long time. But I really don't care. As long as I have
Linux to run I could care less if someone else is using Windows if
that is what they like. More choice is good for the consumer and it
will be good for the industry.

Kirk

P.S. Red Hat 5.2 CD is $1.99 at www.cheapbytes.com. Get a second
hard drive, a good Linux book, and have fun experimenting. If you
don't like Linux just use the hard drive for extra Windows space.
You'll need it for Office 2000. (just make sure you hardware is
on the compatibility list before installing Linux).
