The most significant people in a child's life are the parents who are raising them. Often times the mother stands at the forefront of significance in a child's life. The most powerful reward, reinforcer, motivator, need, etc in a child's life is knowing the approval of the significant adults in their life. Knowing disapproval from a parent has an equal and opposite effect. To me, children are a joyful blessing. I often wonder at how I could be deserving of mine. It boggles me to know that children are unwanted. It amazes me to know that a child would be raised, aware that their existence, in and of itself, is a source of disapproval from their mother. You revere your mother and that is nice. You are a living apology for something that you had no hand in, that is not so nice. Your attitude toward the children of your culture is guilt laden. You don't have to "make everything ok" for your mother and you don't have to repeat the cycle. There are lots of places a woman feeling guilt can hide away. It can even be in a career. I suspect that is not news to you.
