I believe your rumor is quite possible. I summary the news on Dec 13, 1998: "Packard Bell NEC and Gateway have discovered that Dell computer direct business model isn't for everyone. A lot of people still prefer going in a store and talking with a salesperson. Gateway owns 125 showrooms nationwide and wants to own 400 stores in the future." GTW owns 125 showrooms and wants to own 400 stores in the future. CPU owns 200 retail stores. Ha!Ha!Ha! It is perfect match! Best wishes James
