The Big 3 automakers is an interesting analogy. I like analogy.

Well, here's a thought or two. Remember when IBM compatible meant something? Those days were alllll-most behind us, until today. Branding in computers is still a VERY big issue, especially regarding the as-yet unwired. I've lost count of the number of newbies who, when thinking about buying their first computer, have innocently asked me, "Should I get an IBM Compatible?" This is in the late 1990's!

In a very real sense Michael Dell has just captured the future of personal computing by reaching behind him, into the past, into the 1980's, to rescue an almost forgotten and abandoned brand, the IBM Compatible PC. I believe that history will record that DELL/IBM single-handedly brought late 20th century personal computing into the 21st century.
