Thursday March 4, 7:35 pm Eastern Time CMS India plant up ahead of plans DEARBORN, Mich., March 4 (Reuters) - CMS Generation Co., the independent power unit of CMS Energy Corp., said on Thursday the $235 million southern India GMR Vasavi power plant began commercial operations ahead of schedule. CMS Generation holds a 49 percent ownership interest in the facility and provides technical and operations support for the plant, India's third independent power plant to become operational. The first two units of the 200-megawatt diesel-fueled generating plant began commercial operation in January, with commercial operation of the third unit reached during early February and commercial operation of the fourth unit achieved February 15. The plant consists of four slow-speed diesel generating units of 50 megawatts each. CMS Generation said it expects to begin construction on a third plant in India, the Neyveli project in Tamil Nadu, later this spring.
