From Briefing.com:

14:23 ET Amazon.com (AMZN) 116 5/8 -6 7/8 (-6%): Concerns that online retailer may
have trouble meeting top-line estimates is dragging Internet group lower. Analysts are
currently on both sides of the fence. Some believe that introduction of rebate program
part of previously announced increase in promotional spending. Others concerned that
size of rebates suggests company desperate to boost sales in the last month of the qtr.

I posted the email sent to my wife from Amazon. They are clearly going through old inactive customers to try and drump up business. They were not even sure if her email account was still active. They are acting desperate to reach top line growth.
