One problem with the presumed effect on semiconductor equipment sales of the presumed slowdown in PC sales is that, if you take out MUEI, which has been described as a relatively minor player, it appears that PC sales are still growing year-over-year.

If semiconductor manufacturers put the brakes on fab equipment purchases every time PC sales took a breather, they'd never get anything built. The time lag in building something like that is just too great.

There's no question that valuations in this sector are still rich, even after the correction, and it wouldn't surprise me to see the recovery take longer than the momentum boys apparently thought when they bid the sector up so fast. But it would surprise me to see fab equipment bookings turning down again so soon. I suggest we revisit this issue after the PIII release has had time to be felt in the marketplace.
