Your post reminded me of another reason I am not the same kind of Catholic as most others in this country - - the Catholic grandfather was Cajun, and French Catholics are a lot looser than others (except maybe Italians? A lot of the priests had Italian last names.). In South Louisiana, sex is ok. I think an anthropologicial study would be interesting. I was astonished to read that Irish Catholics do not sing in Church, or at least they didn't use to. I have a very interesting book on the topic, "Why Catholics Can't Sing," by Thomas Day. Much of the Church dogma in the United States is derived from the Irish church, which is different than the rest of the world, far more down on sex, for one thing.
