Time Warner, Viacom, and News Corp should determine their internet strategies quickly because the cost of acquiring web companies will only increase, a panel of Internet experts said. "They have to enter the market in a big way or risk getting intermediated", said CMGI Chairman and Chief Executive David Wetherell, speaking at the Hambrecht & Quist Group's Planet.Wall.Street Internet Conference. "It'll be too expensive down the road (for acquisitions) as these Internet Companies valuations get more and more expensive". A panel of Internet executives including Chairmans & CEO's of Yahoo, Lycos, Geocities, Snap.com and CMGI's Wetherell agreed that traditional media companies that wait too long will find acquisitions for even small Internet Companies too expensive. The panel emphasized the speed with which Internet concerns move and the need for swift action - whether by internal growth or acquisition - to increase services. The Chief Operating Officer from Snap.com, Ed Sanctis, said "It doesn't get any easier the longer you wait". Traditional media companies in particular should be concerned about their eroding audience and need to find ways to supplement it. "Everyone's got to make a move", he said.
