While the DELL-IBM deal is a win-win for both companies and does represent a tacit abdication of the PC market for IBM, it just as surely represents an acknowledgement by Michael Dell that the PC market is becoming increasingly commoditized, and that for future growth to occur, DELL must move into the higher end business of both storage and servers. Clearly, DELL has taken this step with its alliance with IBM.
