Since I'm share holder of ATHM, I have been following cable modems very closely. As you most likely know cable is a shared medium, so, the first people that sign-up get very fast service, but, as more people sign on, it slows up. But still it is very fast, everyone likes it that I have heard from. There have been some problem, much like AOL having too many customers, but ATHM and MSOs are fixing them.. If I could get it I would, I like the always on aspect, and no need for a second phone line (I have 5 phone lines 2 here 3 at the store), no more phone bills for using the web. Cost is high, but worth it in my mind for the speed.
