As a side show to the human treatment there is the animal treatment. My vet is singing the praises of the Atrix formulation distributed through Heska. He uses it with great results in treating periodontal disease in cats and dogs, which is widespread, and as a filler after tooth removal to prevent "dry socket". These uses are mentioned on the Atrix site under strategic alliances. Heska itself is public and has a web site heska.com from which more info is available.
