Re: CPU
Been there with other dogs who were subsequently reborn a year or so later, such as LIPO and ASND. Yes, it's a hard decision to make. It is a roll of the dice.
The whole computer sector has been getting beat up during the last couple of weeks. I'm now sitting on a paper loss of $15K with TECD. Their fundamentals are great as are several others in that sector.
In my opinion as a value shopper or that I am just plain cheap, the internet is not an answer all for computer purchasing. Personally, I have put together my PCs during the last 10+ years. I would never buy a DELL, IBM or any other turnkey brand CPU for the simply reason that these custom boxes and components are not built for subsequent expansion and upgrading with somebody else's brand name components.
They don't want you to expand a PC two or three years later by upgrading the motherboard, cpu, drives, etc. They want you to give that old CPU to your kid or your favorite charity and then purchase a new CPU system from them. Aren't we disposable consumers?
It is my belief human beings will still need retailers, malls and other experts to build us a custom PC system who get their stuff from distributors. Forget about the commodity under $1,000 CPUs. Those things are not built for expansion and you do get what you pay for even if it was made in China.
People change in their perceived and created needs, so, I believe, "custom" does fit into the equation. So, it is my belief, that we will still have computer retailers and distributors in the equation. They just have to configure themselves into "value-added" and cost effective players to compete against Dell and others selling their stuff on the internet. That's why Dell did the deal with IBM. Dell or IBM's business model is going to have to change cause IBM does has a reputation for not being "price sensitive." |
