" Intel has the following 8 inch (200 mm Wafer size) wafer fabs in production: Fab 10 (Ireland), Fab 11 (Rio Rancho), Fab 12 (Chandler) D2 (Santa Clara), D1B (Hillsboro), Fab 14 (Ireland), Fab 15 (Aloha) and Fab 18 (Israel). That makes 8. Of these, Fab 10 may not be "state of the art" - (it came on stream in 1993), but all the others have 0.25 micron capability except Fab 18 - which is brand new and is starting out as a 0.18 micron fab - and production is ramping up right now. D1B is ramping the new 0.18 micron process - it was also the development site for the 0.18 micron process, and Fab 12 is also ramping up 0.18 micron production. Thus, it is 7 to 1 in favor of Intel for 0.25 micron and 3 to 0 for 0.18 micron PRODUCTION. Intel has several older fabs - Fab 5 (Aloha), Fab 6 (Chandler) Fabs 7 and Fab 9 (Rio Ranch) and Fab 8 - Israel. These are older fabs and basically run 6 inch wafers on older processes of 0.35 micron feature size and larger. Paul
