Here's Donnelly's view on Gentex. I sent the following email to Donnelly. Your 10-K states the following: "The Company's GLAREFREEtm electrochromic mirror technology offers several advantages over competing technology." What are the advantages and disadvantages of Donnelly and Gentex EC mirrors? Is their large lead entirely due to reaching the market first and keeping Donnelly away with patent litigation? The following reply arrived from Kelly.Smith@donnelly.com: Thank you for your interest in Donnelly's EC mirrors. We believe that our product offering has several competitive advantages. These include: more attractive styling including the sensor in the mirror case rather than the mirror glass, greater flexibility to accommodate specific customer needs (e.g. placement of the connectors), the option of a hidden wire to the overhead and decentralized EC cell manufacture and assembly (to address local content issues). In addition, specific added feature EC mirrors have their own set of advantages. For example, our lighted EC mirror is the only one to offer optically directed light output that minimizes glare for the driver -- at the same time, our expertise in mirrors allows us to design this heavier mirror so that it continues to have excellent vibration performance. Finally, Donnelly continues to offer a price advantage to our customers as we provide EC mirrors as part of a total rear vision system. In response to our product design advantages, we are rapidly increasing our EC mirror production and share of market. Please let us know if you have any other questions.
