from the IBM thread: "IBM has just pissed in the soup."
My first thought on hearing the deal was to feel sorry for those poor IBM PC salesmen (if they have any). Why would anybody want to buy any IBM PC hardware. But the Dell salesmen just got a great new sales pitch. "Why buy an IBM PC (or server) for more money when you can buy virtually the SAME machine from Dell."

Robert Townsend, the former CEO of Avis tells a true story when the home office came up with a strategy of introducing a lower priced rental car service from Avis. Everybody loved the idea except Wisinski, the Regional Manager from Chicago. When queried about his lack of enthusiasm, he replied, "If this new idea is the same as Avis, just cheaper. I don't like it." "You may think this is great, but us pollocks call it p*ssing in the soup."
