I think the root of our disagreement remains my assessment of INTC's prospects as an investment. I am happy to discuss them with you; please make a separate reply to this post if you're interested.
On your specific issues: 1) AMT -- I agree. If this is your situation, then there is even more reason for you to minimize reported gains. Never selling is one solution, but there are other gains-avoidance strategies.
2) reinvest/recoup -- again, we agree. If you believe, as I do, that Intel will be a mediocre investment in the future, then doing so is easy. Given enough underperformance, selling an appreciated position, paying tax from the proceeds, and indexing might be all it takes.
3) five overvalued stocks I own puts on INTC, DELL, MU, AMAT and SCH, although I've taken some money off the table recently (cf #reply-8084220).
4) where would I put the money See my profile. Very bearish, I'm afraid.
