Ish, I believe the four boys in Stand By Me did that. I also think now any time I set out to cross one, especially a 75mph track, I'd start out running whether I could hear anything or not.

Sometimes you see trestles here, we have a lot, with little platforms in the middle, sometimes not; they probably don't want to encourage people.

They were talking about building a pedestrian bridge now.

I've tried the Tonto and dirt thing. Never heard much but dirt.

As a matter of fact, I now remember trying the rail and ear thing, but there weren't any trains coming for a while, and I got bored. (I could fall asleep and could sleep through that today.) Instead I dug a hole in the field. And covered it with plywood. And then kids jumped on each other inside it.
