This from the BMW annual report:

"Series 7 was overhauled in the fall of 1998 and continued to lead the
top-of-the-line segment in Europe, thanks, among other things, to
BMW's numerous innovations, including active seats, speech input for
telephones and navigation systems, ITS head airbags and the new
diesel motorisation. The 47,200 models shipped clearly show that the
BMW Series 7 fully maintained its popularity in the world market
during the past year."

Each of the batteries that Varta described was a tad more than 1/2 kwh. So if Beemer converts the entire 7 series this is 24,000 kwh per year, or the equivalent of about 1/3 to 1/2 a Kettering plant per year. I like it.
