yeah, high-low is better. It builds the pot much bigger.
And if no one has a low hand down to the 9, high gets the whole sheebang.
Some times we play it only on a low hand. We call it "nuts low". Draw all you want, name your own wild card on both games.
Ever play the game "uncle"? It's a real ballsy game.
Here's the skinny:
It's a 5 card stud game. First everyone gets one card up and one card down, and bet just like a stud game.
Here's the catch. If you match your hole card any time during the hand, that card is wild for you.
If you match on the board(cards that are showing)it's not wild, and you have to match the pot to stay in the game.
If you match the pot, you can bet half of what your match cost is.
Example: If you have a 3 in the hole, and your first card is 3, you already have three of a kind on the next card.
SO now you get a K. You have three Ks. Your fourth card is another 3. You now have to match the pot(if there are six players,$1 anti and(assuming only $1) bets, the pot would be $18.
You put $18 in the pot and now you can bet up to $9, and everyone has to match your bet to stay in the game.
On $1 antis, and $2 bets(until someone matches), I have seen pots in excess of $800.
They call it uncle because if you're not careful, that's what you end up crying.
Hint, unless you got a damn convincing poker face, you don't match your jole card, you usually get out of dodge. Great game. |
