• Wireless communications spending rose to $50.2 billion in 1998, a 14.3 percent increase over the previous year, according to the 1999 MultiMedia Telecommunications Market Review and Forecast, a joint publication by the Telecommunications Industry Association and the MultiMedia Telecommunications Association. Total wireless spending will reach $81.8 billion by 2002. The report says wireless communications services, including analog and digital cellular, PCS, pagers, SMR and low-orbiting satellites, are easier and cheaper to establish than wireline service and are becoming increasingly important on a global scale.
