Another $3B in parts to be purchased in Taiwan; the $16B from IBM sounds as if it's incremental as well.
Dell must be planning to substantially increase Revenues. They're certainly making massive agreements to ensure secure sources of supply.

Dell Computer May Buy Parts Worth $3 Bln From Taiwan, CT Says
Taipei, March 6 (Bloomberg) -- Dell Computer Corp. said its purchase of Taiwanese computer parts may surge 40 percent to a record level, and that its plan to buy $16 billion in parts from International Business Machines Corp. will have a limited impact on suppliers in Taiwan, the Commercial Times reported, citing Fang Kuo-chien, president of Dell's global procurement department. Dell expects to buy personal computers, motherboards, monitors and power supplies worth NT$100 billion ($3.0 billion) from the island, Fang said. The planned purchase from IBM will hurt contractors in the U.S., Japan and Korea, he said.
On Thursday, Dell said it will buy $16 billion of parts and equipment from IBM, teaming two computer powerhouses as industry competition intensifies. (Commercial Times p.3 3/6/99) |
