You forgot one thing. Despite some hard knocks, Charters is winning the fight. With the erosion of a steady stream of preponderant evidence of the hot water theory at weak points of his opponent's childlike dogma, the magmatic edifice is crumbling. Beneath the facade of the once great mountains of awesome magmatic rectitude now appears the roots of truth, the sedimentary and volcanic theory.

A point to note is that all this theory is just that. No geological whimsy has one iota of certainty. In 3 billion years of time and after a dizzying array of events, the evidence is blurred and indistinct and many of the needed pieces of the puzzle are missing. For decades theories have changed, been discarded and resurrected. It is instructive to go back to Georgius Agricola who wrote in the 15 century. Roughly paraphrased he said, "it is wise to eschew all manner of witchcraft and sorcery in the hunt for ore and to stick to science and practical investigation to elicit the secrets of the earth." In other places he said, "ores are emplaced in fissures and veins by the action of volcanoes that have cause the circulation of hot fluids and mixtures to congeal and solidify in these places in all manner of shapes and sizes." In another he said, "IP is not bad for finding disseminated sulphides but the jury is out on time domain electromagnetics"

Nothing new out there.
