The purchase of Level One makes Intel serious competitor instantly in network communications - a market analysts predict will grow 50 percent per year. The PC market, in contrast, has slowed to about 15 percent annual growth. In 1998, Intel's sales growth slowed to 5 percent after a steady climb of 20 percent each year since 1990.
