Skane,

Your shorting against the box strategy has it's merits.

Some things to consider on the negative side though.
And there is always a negative.<G>

When the stock is dropping and you want to sell your long position in order to expose the short position, you legally still need an uptick/upbid.
If you just sell the long without one, you will be getting a call from your broker.

Also consider that if the stock drops below $5, it may no longer be considered marginable and you are at risk of getting the stock called back, leaving your long position exposed in a down move.
Not something you would want.

If the stock makes an up move and you close out your short, I don't see any problems. This assumes you can close you short before the move up.
If it gaps and does not continue up, you will be in a break even position still.

P.S. Since I am short EGRP and my indicators are pointing down, I am looking for the opposite of Viagra.<G> Any suggestions?
