>> Sweet is revenge - especially to women. -- Lord Byron << What a complainer! I'll bet there are two sides to that story!! -------------
BUT, I definitely, consciously do NOT believe in "getting even" -- for the simple reason that it doesn't work. Nor (imo) is revenge ever "sweet."
Mathematically, philosophically, and every other way except in the imagination, "even" simply does not exist. There are solutions to problems, but "revenge" is not one of them -- it's not practical. ---------------
I get that insight from two of my favorite "jokes:"
"I never hold a grudge - as soon as I get even with the SOB, I forget it" --- W.C. Fields (Visualize Fields' voice and body language as you read that.)
and from a cartoon of a nasty-smiling practical-joke puller, that I saw while reading The Saturday Evening Post when I was about seven. The punch line was: "Sometimes I find it fun to do what I've been done to."
It struck my seven-year-old brain as so uncannily, strangely funny, that I couldn't stop laughing -- and for some reason I never forgot that line .... It took me many years to see that it was the underlying tragedy that made it so funny. ---------
What completed my understanding was seeing the title of Helder Camera's book, The Spiral of Violence.
Aha! An infinite get-even loop. Or rather, spiral ... -------------
But, Sherry, I'm not above a funny, ironic, paradoxical comment or two! <VBG>
