<o.t.>G'day all - re: oil. I ve not read the books - heck, I ve not read any book for awhile now <sg>. However, the current geopolitical conditions are quite different from those of the 70s. Rumor is that there is cheating going on amongst the OPEC members. Russia, Indonesia, and even Nigeria are a mess. Pan-arabic nationalism has degenerated into tribalism and religious factionalism. One has to wonder: do the Sunni and the Shiite hate each other more than the Great Satan? [incidentally, to digress with an on topic comment, rabid factionalism is actually quite common. For instance, the late Chiang Kai Shek spent more resources to fight the Chinese Communist than against the Japanese forces, despite the facts that China was overrun by the Japanese Imperial Army.] The conservative elements like the Saudi and Kauwait are less than likely to join hands with Iraq - even if Iran is on the mend. And we haven't gotten to the dire situations in places like Nigeria and Indonesia.
Having said that, I am not about to buy the Excursion when my 200K miles clinker still limps along <vbg>
