I wont go this far. MSFT is a great software company. But notice that
I said 'Software'. Anyone for whom they make the software for will
benefit greatly. Sun has introduced the idea and innovation for a
universal open software environment through Java, and JavaBeans
model. Microsoft is taking the full advantage of this innovation and
will be pushing its Windows based environment and applications
through their browsers and Java Virtual Machine not only on the
Windows platform but also on the Unix platforms. This is great news
for Sun's hardware side of business. I dont believe JavaSoft can
ever compete with Microsoft (or very much profitable for that matter)
but Sun can certainly tease Microsoft in order to develop their
innovations so their hardware business can benefit greatly! Microsoft
in a sense has become a tool for Sun (and being manipulated by
Sun) to push Sun's own agenda and internet model which
ultimately will result in an explosive growth for servers and NCs as
seconds go by!
