I don't think Apple is the source of CPU's problems. The IMac accounted for almost 35% of CPU's '98 sales in only 4 months. Besides which, the Apple section takes less than 15% of the stores floor.

At least two REAL problems with CPU are 1) their B-T-O computers are too expensive. I priced a similar configurations of computers at both CPU & DELL- and the CPU computers were not any cheaper! Now why would I buy a knockoff when I could get the real thing at the same price- and don't answer because of "the service"! 2)The service sucks at CPU- as it does in all retail suppliers. Almost all of the CPU staff are completely confused about computer systems, they don't know jack. For the most part they are idiot teens with a lot of attitude & no knowledge. I know- I worked at the CPU in San Antonio, TX.

The store managers are pretty hopeless also. The San Antonio store has reams of old stock (out of date computers) in the back room that they can't sell- and wouldn't just clear out on sale.

Unfortunately the only thing the sales staff is concerned with is getting the customers to buy the redundant & overpriced extended warranties. For a lap top they really screw the customers, separate warranties for the computer and the screen!

CPU could have done better had they fired all of the Computer City loosers instead of absorbing them into their CompUSA stores & if they had more effectively embraced the Apple products, they only thing that made them special in cities with Best Buy stores. Look at MicroCenter stores- really smart sales staff, helpful- and and successful Apple computer section.

sorry Annette.. lmason
