I get it. What the CDT is saying is that Intel is "deceiving" customers. Intel says that customers have control over whether they want their processor serial number activated by using a software switch. But if there are ways to get around that software switch, that must mean that Intel is not telling the truth.

In other words, if a Web site chooses to abuse the serial number feature by hacking around the software switch, that's Intel's fault. Pardon me for saying this, but the CDT's argument is BS. Perhaps if they changed their complaint to something like "make the serial number more hack-proof," I'd buy their argument. But no, they want to kill off the Pentium III, just like the Chicken-Little privacy advocates.
