Skane,
Someone pointed me to your post. INfact, boxed positions have been deemed violative of NASD rules. The NASD sent out a bulletin about 4,5 months ago saying they wanted firms to NET positions. Please do a search of SI for short against box, boxed, etc. you will find the post. SO anything that I might have said to the effect that a boxed position was permissible a year or so ago, is no longer permissible.
Please make sur eyou net the two.
Long 1k in one account , margin and short 1k in a short account is NET flat. Any additional sales require you to meet short sale rules, ticks, upbids, teenies above upbids and borrowing stock.
