I absolutely disagree with this statement. The FED will cut rates and cut them hard if the stock market craps our or if any of their favorite banks/hedge funds begins to show disaster (LTCM for example) My guess is the recent rounds of rate cuts are to allow them time to unwind some of their derivatives trade before then allowing the market to collapse. The FED will make absolutely certain that they can unwind these potentially threatening trades before allowing the market to collapse. <imo>
