I just got this comment in an email from a friend. I guess it's appropriate for this thread:

<My neighbor's daughter just took a book out of the library about a badly injured raccoon, described as "handicapped". Avoiding "lame" and "crippled" for people I can deal with but I draw the line at raccoons.>
