We had a love triangle going... Daytrading made my ex-boyfriend a slave to an activity that stole (both his and my) time, attention and, of course, money. It robbed him of his spirit, and delivered the consequences of denial, emotional unavailability, and financial irresponsibility...to name some of the generalities. It only ends, like you say, when you get burned enough and have to cut it off to survive.
