U.S. Government Files Name Infringement Suit Against U.S. Robotics

PR Newswire - February 13, 1997 15:38

Washington D.C., USA, Feb. 13 /PRNewswire/ -- The U.S. Government today filed a complaint in U.S. District Court in Washington D.C. against U.S. Robotics Corporation (Nasdaq: USRX) of Skokie, Ill., for the infringement and the improper use of "U.S." which is known world wide as U.S. Government. The "U.S." is at issue because it is essential to our identity within the International Community. Attorney General Janet Reno said the U.S. Government will protect their name to the fullest. She also said the
U.S. Government will be including the words"Pilot" in the suit on behalf of all "U.S." "Pilots". She said a request has been made by "U.S." Senator Strom Thurman (and is under consideration) to add the words "modem" and "MegaHertz". The senator is concerned people will be confused when he asks congress for "modem" "U.S." dollars for his district, or when he says " The U.S. Pilots modem Iraqi's down and put the Megahertz on them.

There are rumors Vice President Gore wants the word "Robotics" included. He says he resembles it.

Attorney General Janet Reno went on to say "It is regrettable that we had to take this action. But after several years of negotiation, it was the only course left open to us. She said The U.S. Government will vigorously defend its intellectual property and its right to fair compensation for the use of that property." Experts say it will be hard for the Attorney General to prove it has intellectual property.

The Attorney General then shouted for the "Courier" to jump on the "Sportster" and "flash" on over
to the court.

No one at the Company was available for comment, it was said they were at Harley Davidson discussing
a counter suit.
