Zeev, your numbers for the practicality of solar-electric EV charging stations are too pessimistic: Electric autos are several times as efficient in terms of energy use as gasoline autos, and the charging stations are probably aimed at supplementing the range of the EV's (not providing full charge). So, the needed solar cell area could be far less than you estimated.

Also, there is absolutely no need for the extreme power delivery that SMES or super-capacitors can provide.
