Hey Dwight, I missed this one. Perhaps you've missed the recent news on Guatemala, one of Eliot Abram's little triumphs of "democracy", of the Reaganaut sort, where you kill all the opposition before elections. When a Guatemalan truth commission implicated the United States in February in the creation of a killing machine that ravaged entire Mayan villages in the 1980s, it raised questions that are not likely to go away soon -- certainly not by the time President Clinton visits Guatemala this week: How could a country that calls itself a beacon of democracy link its military and intelligence agencies so intimately to Guatemala's darkest, most reactionary forces? What was the nature of that relationship over three decades? What were U.S. officials thinking as 200,000 people were killed? nytimes.com I know, not the kind of question good Christians like yourself can be bothered with. It's all Clinton fault anyway, like contra drug running through Mena, or the Chinese stealing U.S. nuclear secrets on Reagan's watch, right?
